Public Notices & Agency Updates
For Immediate Release
March 17, 2015 Media Contact: Laura Conroy Public Information Officer [email protected] 503.257.1516 MESD and MESDEA reach tentative agreement on new contract Portland, Oregon - Multnomah ESD and the MESD Education Association have reached an agreement on a new contract with the assistance of a state mediator. Teams worked for over 10 hours Monday night, with MESDEA bargaining leader, Scott Sievertson, signing a tentative agreement at 11:39pm. Terms of the agreement are not yet available as the agreement must be approved by the association and district board. District and union teams hunkered down in the Ainsworth building for three mediation sessions for over 30 hours. The teams appointed envoys, which met in mini-sessions with the state mediator, to exchange proposals and information. The envoys then met with their respective teams in separate caucus rooms. The agreement means the teams have found a way to address major issues that had stymied progress for months, including salary schedules that would support both the recruitment of highly skilled new staff and the retention of experienced long-term staff. "After ten months of difficult negotiations and hard work by both sides, I am very pleased that MESD and MESDEA have reached an agreement for a new contract" said Chief Operating Officer Jim Rose.
